Learn how to arrange inexpensive grocery store flowers so they look like a million bucks with these simple tricks!

This post is part of a seasonal blog hop I’m doing with some of my favourite blogging friends! Make sure to visit all the links at the bottom of this post to get more beautiful DIY flower arrangement ideas!

It’s no secret that I ADORE flowers, and I love adding them to my decor in abundance in the Spring. I wish I had an unlimited budget for designer fresh flower arrangements, but since I don’t I enjoy playing with grocery store flowers and making them look more expensive.

This pink, boho inspired floral arrangement was so fun to create, and I used a few simple tricks to make it with a few inexpensive bouquets I bought from my local grocery store.

Want to make one too?

Here are a few tricks to making grocery store flowers look gorgeous and expensive:

Choose flowers in a monochromatic or analogous colour scheme.

What the heck does that mean?! It means: buy flowers that are all shades of the same colour, or a couple of colours that are right beside each other on the colour wheel. You can read my post on colour schemes to see the colour wheel and get some ideas. These colour schemes will help make your floral arrangement look elegant and elevated. For this one, I grabbed some tulips and mixed florals in shades of pinks and purples – analogous colours!

Use a unique vase in a gorgeous texture or colour.

Placing your arrangement in a pretty vase will instantly make your flowers look higher end. Try a heavy glass vase, something textured, or even something unexpected like an antique crock or thrifted jug. For my flower arrangement, I ended up using a large candle holder in a textured pink & gold colour combo.

Create a shape & group same flowers together.

I learned these tricks from one of my favourite floral designers – Cory Christopher. After you fill your vase with water, start trimming and placing your flowers in the vase while keeping a finished shape in mind. For this one, I wanted to create a triangular shape with taller flowers in the middle and shorter ones draping on each side. You could also create a circle, something more asymmetrical – use your creativity! Another trick it to group similar flowers together to create clusters. I love how this looks! In my arrangement, I’m grouping the mums, the light tulips, the dark tulips and the carnations together in clusters rather than spreading them out over the whole arrangement. This is such a gorgeous look, and reminds me of a bouquet that you might naturally make while gathering flowers in a field.

Add in dried or faux stems.

Finally, sneaking in some dried or faux floral or greenery stems can make your arrangement look fuller and more interesting on a budget. I had considered adding some faux eucalyptus stems to mine, but when I tried adding these dried pampas grass stems I enjoyed how soft the light gold was with the pinks of the flowers. The wonderful thing is that you can reuse dried and faux stems over and over again!

I am so happy with how this pretty Spring floral arrangement turned out, and I hope you enjoyed these easy tips on how to make your own grocery store flower arrangement for Spring.
