How to inject COSENTYX sensoready pen? ›

Hold the COSENTYX Sensoready Pen at 90 degrees to the cleaned injection site (see Figure I). IMPORTANT: During the injection you will hear 2 loud clicks: The 1st click indicates that the injection has started. Several seconds later a 2nd click will indicate that the injection is almost finished.

Secukinumab (Cosentyx) is used to treat types of plaque psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, enthesitis-related arthritis, and non-radiographic axial spondyloarthritis, which are autoimmune conditions.

The recommended dose of COSENTYX^® (secukinumab) for moderate-severe plaque psoriasis is 300 mg. To start, your doctor will prescribe 5 weekly loading doses. To continue after that, you only need to take COSENTYX once a month for maintenance, which means fewer interruptions in your daily routine.

Secukinumab. Each vial of powder for solution for subcutaneous injection contains 150 mg of secukinumab when reconstituted with 1 mL water for injection. Each pre-filled pen contains 150 mg secukinumab. Secukinumab is a recombinant fully human monoclonal antibody selective for interleukin-17A.

Step 4 Remove the needle cap from the Cosentyx prefilled syringe and throw it away. Step 5 Hold the prefilled syringe in one hand then with the other hand gently pinch the skin at the injection site to form a small bump of skin. Then insert the needle into the small bump, making sure you push the needle in all the way.

3.4. Persistence. Secukinumab had an overall 12-month persistence rate of 78% (95% CI: 71–84) and a 24-month persistence rate of 67% (95% CI: 60–74; Figure 7).

Secukinumab works by blocking the effects of this protein, to reduce inflammation and the problems it can cause, such as joint pain and stiffness. It's a long-term treatment. Depending on your condition, it may take between three weeks and a year of taking secukinumab before you start to see the benefits.

Secukinumab does not cause weight gain. There is no proof that this drug increases belly fat. However, there can be weight loss in some cases because of some of the side effects, such as diarrhoea or infections.

Body weight and uric acid levels tended to decrease over 52 weeks with secukinumab. Secukinumab showed a neutral effect on fasting plasma glucose, lipid parameters and liver enzymes.

For example, etanercept injections are given twice weekly for 3 months and then once a week thereafter. And after an initial injection of ustekinumab, the follow-up injections will occur at 4 weeks and then every 12 weeks. Some of these medications are administered in the doctor's office each time.

How long does COSENTYX take to clear psoriasis? ›

People taking Cosentyx reported that their symptoms eased within 12 weeks of using the drug to treat plaque psoriasis. People using Cosentyx to treat PsA reported that their symptoms eased after 16 weeks of treatment. Some people receiving Cosentyx reported symptom relief in as few as 3 weeks.

Secukinumab injection is used to treat moderate to severe plaque psoriasis (a skin disease in which red, scaly patches form on some areas of the body) in adults and children 6 years of age and older whose psoriasis is too severe to be treated by topical medications alone.

The list (or wholesale) price for COSENTYX, as of January 2024 is $7,408.96 a month for either a 150-mg or a 300-mg dose strength self-injection package and $4,230 per intravenous infusion. The list price may not reflect the price paid by patients; most patients with prescription coverage will pay less.

It's best to take the COSENTYX Sensoready Pen out of the refrigerator 15–30 minutes before injecting so that it reaches room temperature. Take the COSENTYX UnoReady Pen out of the refrigerator 30–45 minutes before injecting without removing the needle cap.
